Ireland County Cork

Apart from the cemetery, there is not much else left of Bantry Abbey which was built in the 1300s. It was reconstructed in 1462 and the carved stones in this altar are all that remain of that Franciscan Friary. The Elizabethan forces seized it in 1580 until they were expelled in 1582 by the Chieftan Donal Cam. It was subsequently destroyed during further conflicts.
